Submit My Blog: Simple Guidelines
03/12/10
One of the most common concerns of most bloggers is answering the question "What benefits will I gain when I submit my blog to blog directories?" Some bloggers will actually submit their blogs to dozens of directories or even more, while others feel that this wouldn't be of much use. What I have learned through extensive research and experience however, is that I get consistently good results when I submit my blog to a few different blog directories a short time after launching them.
What I quickly learned when I submit my blog to blog directories was that I was able to garner backlinks in a fairly short time. This has allowed my websites to be found more easily by the major search engines, which then indexed my sites and caused them to rank higher in search results.
The interesting thing is how much importance search engines place on these links. In most cases, search engines rank pages that have such links higher, since they are generally considered to be more worthy of linking to. This is actually how I got better results when I submit my blog to blog directories. I also learned that it wasn't actually the directory list that gave me more hits on my site.
There is a bit of dispute about the proper number of blog directories to submit my blog to. Opinions range from the modest to the outlandish, with some people of the thinking that I should submit my blog to as many different blog directories as I could manage.
As is the norm in the industry, it appears that submission to 10 blog directories or even less is sufficient. While most search engines do favor sites with more links, they do not usually consider links originating from a blog directory as important as links that come from actual blog posts or articles.
My primary concern at this point was how to find blog directories that I could submit my blog to. A simple online search for "blog directory" will actually get you hundreds of potential directories to check out. In fact, many of the better blog directories came in at the top of the search results pages.
I have often run into blog directories that require me to post backlinks or impose certain other requirements. I tend to shy away from those blog directories, and instead I tried to submit my blog to blog directories that were a lot less rigid.
Many of the blog directories I tried out were simple to submit content to. I don't even bother with directories that overcomplicated the process, and opted to submit to those that made it easy for me to submit my blog. I was then able to focus on producing better content that resulted in more links.
